History of Gods School Managua, Nicaragua

Mary Spires of Florence, South Carolina is the founder of God's School. She received the inspiration of it's creation soon after a group from her church returned from a missionary trip to Nicaragua. They told her about seeing poverty to an extreme that few in America could imagine.

Mary prayed asking God what she could do to help those poor Nicaraguan children. She was inspired to send a huge 40 foot ship container to Nicaragua. She prayed for help and the funds to achieve this monumental task. Almost instantly good people heard what she was doing and mailed her donations to stock the container. By the miracle of God, she filled not one but three containers with food, clothing, medical supplies and other necessities of life!

Mary was warned that she would have to pay thousands of dollars to get the containers through customs and that they would arrive opened with much of the supplies stolen. Mary prayed over this and felt assured that the containers would arrive safely. On January 4th, 1998, Mary left on her first trip to Nicaragua. Customs did not charge her one penny to admit the containers and they all arrived safely and fully packed!

As Mary spent time in Nicaragua on that first trip she too witnessed the abject and total poverty the children were living in. She and her husbandTy immediately purchased land in a barrio called Los Torreson that very first trip. The God given concept of God's School was about to begin.

Now after 8 years and many long trips to Nicaragua God's School is a reality. God’s School I is a two story PURPLE cement block building. God’s Church is a one story building beside it. God’s School I is Pre- K thru 6th Grade. God’s School II is located in a barrio in Manchester and it is Pre –K to First Grade. God’s School III is being built now and will be for 7th and 8th graders with a library and office. They also now have God’s Safe house for children that have been abused. Daily all of the children hear God's word, receive educational instruction, a hot meal and other necessities of their little lives.

Mary Spires's great faith and hard work along with her husband Ty and groups from churches and other organizations have helped this miracle of God to come true. We hope and pray you too will help it to continue.
